- —-President Coriolanus Snow
Coriolanus Snow, son of Crassus and Marilla Snow, was the President of Panem, formerly known as the continent of North America, during the era of the hunger games. Known as a cunning, ruthless, and calculating leader, Snow ruled with an iron grip over the districts and prioritized the status-quo and well-being of the Capitol above all else. In his early days, under the tutelage of Dr. Volumnia Gaul, it was Snow who drafted the initial idea of the games, framing them as a method of turning the districts against each other by implementing a betting system fueled by donation. Several decades after his swift rise to power, Snow eventually met his downfall thanks to the emergence of Katniss Everdeen and her role in igniting a rebellion that would result in the complete dismantling of Snow's vision for Panem.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Coriolanus was born during the golden age of the Capitol into the renowned noble family of Snow. Coriolanus enjoyed a life of luxury and privilege thanks to his father's high standing in Capitol society. At the age of two, Corio met District 2 immigrant Sejanus Plinth, with whom he would develop a close relationship over the years.
The First Rebellion[]
Corio's father, Crassus, would become a major general during the First Rebellion, leading legions of Capitol troops against the rebels in the districts. Corio and his family would regularly visit Crassus at the train station when he returned from the front lines, and young Corio looked up to his father as a hero. At some point during the war, Corio's mother perished during childbirth. His father died shortly after, killed in battle by a rebel bullet. Orphaned, Coriolanus was taken in by his Grandmother and cousin, Tigris. Although the Capitol forces would win the war, the city and its people were decimated and many fell into extreme poverty. Thanks to the destruction of District 13, which held many Snow family assets, the Snow family was quickly left destitute.
The Dark Days[]
Forced to scavenge in order to survive, Corio and Tigris struggled to scrape by in a post-war environment thanks in part to Tigris' meager earnings as a fashion assistant to Fabricia Whatnot.
As a young man, typical of most Capitol youth, Corio enrolled into Dean Casca Highbottom's Academy where he proved to be an exceptional student. Unfortunately, however, he was disadvantaged in that Highbottom projected his hatred of Crassus Snow onto him, and the two shared a tumultuous relationship. Snow developed an amicable friendship with his fellow classmates, and remained very close to Sejanus and the Plinth family.
The 10th Hunger Games[]
Ten years after the Treaty of Treason and the end of the rebellion, Coriolanus was in the senior class of the Academy at eighteen years of age.
Peacekeeper[]
When becoming a Peacekeeper he develops a forbidden relationship with district girl, Lucy Gray Baird, and then believing her to betray him tries to kill her before leaving District 12. We do not know wether she died or not, though it is hinted that she survived.
Rise to Power[]
After poisoning Highbottom, and having earned favor with Dr. Gaul and President Ravinstill, Coriolanus quickly climbed the ranks of Capitol society. For an undetermined number of years he served as an apprentice gamemaker under Gaul. Eventually, having earned an incredible amount of status and influence, Coriolanus stepped up as the next reigning president of Panem.
